Public Interest Litigation (PIL)
Public Interest Litigation (PIL) is a legal mechanism that allows individuals or groups to approach the High Court or Supreme Court to seek judicial intervention in matters affecting public welfare. PILs are filed in cases where legal rights of a large section of society are at stake, and access to justice may otherwise be limited.
Scope of Practice:
- Drafting and filing PILs in High Court under Article 226 or Supreme Court under Article 32
- Environmental issues, government inaction, and civic concerns
- Violation of fundamental rights affecting marginalized communities
- Representing public interest bodies and citizen groups
- Compliance with procedural safeguards under PIL regulations
